What Mother’s Day means to us

Being a mother is one of the hardest yet most rewarding jobs in the world, so it’s fitting that we honour them with one day a year of love and reflect on everything they have done for us. They have no pay and little time off from being your parent and will be a figure in your life forever near or far, little or often. Mothers deserve more than one day of our attention and love; however, this special day is to remind them of how important and special our mothers are to us.

We all have different ways of celebrating Mother’s Day all over the world and in different cultures, but for the most of us, it probably is all about complimenting these amazing women.

Spend the day with them! The best gift to give a mother is the recognition of how much she has done for us and how much we love them. Take as much time out of our days to spend with our mothers to just remind them of how loved they really are. It doesn’t have to cost a single penny just to spend time with our mothers; maybe take a walk together or just have a good catch up. However, spoiling our mothers can also be just as loving, treating them to a homemade meal or going out to the pub together is still a cost-effective way to spend time together.

If you have a bit more money to spend, then we’ve thought of an itinerary for your Mother’s Day! Maybe start with brunch in her favourite restaurant, then head to the spa to get pampered which all mothers love and deserve! This gives time to catch-up and some well-deserved time to relax and unwind. If you’ve still the energy, end the day with a meal out together or cook a homemade meal together. A BBQ can be a great way to bring all the family together in the evening to treat your mother with some family fun. A day like this could be what every mother dreams of and can be just what she needs to remind her of how important and crucial her life long job has been.

Another way of showing these amazing women how important they are to us is to spoil them with gifts. Flowers, funny mugs, alcohol, candles and chocolate are all classic gifts that will put a smile on her face and will be much appreciated. Maybe this year go out your comfort zone and look for gifts that will last and are a bit different to the norm. Here at Cute Maps we can design a map or pathway of you and your mothers journey together. The Cute Path mounted print could be the perfect personalised illustration of either your mothers’ journey through life or the journey that both of you shared together. https://www.cutemaps.co.uk/product/cute-path/ The Cute Gift Map mounted print can be personalised to anything of your choosing and can be as weird and wonderful as you like. https://www.cutemaps.co.uk/product/cute-gift-map/

Altenatively, a piece of jewellery to remind her of you every time she wears it could be a good gift this Mother’s Day. There are a plethora of inventive gift companies offering beautiful Mother’s Day personalised gifts ,that can embody the story between you and your mother or family:

Be My Valentine

If you didn’t know where and how it all started, that time of year you either love or hate Valentine’s Day, started back in the Middle Ages with people sending small notes of affection. Now hundreds and hundreds of years on we still recognise it as a day of spreading love with friends, family or that someone special.  We’ve had a look for some great buys out there for this Valentines.

Even if you doubt it, the surprise feeling when a flowers or chocolate delivery lands with you will bring a guaranteed smile- young or old, boy or girl.  Flower bouquets and chocolates can be personalised and tailored to your loved one’s tastes and don’t forget to include a message, even if you intend to keep the sender a secret. The new dawn of flowers by post has spawned beautiful companies such as Bloom and Wild who offer a stunning array of affordable bouquets.

Swarovski, Pandora and Tiffany are all great places to get inspiration for jewellery on Valentines Day. Subject to budget you can’t go wrong with a Tiffany pendant in their signature colour and style (pendant £120) or a bargain alternative is this beautiful bracelet from Swarovski (29.50)

Homemade gifts can be the most personal and often most cherished gifts. If money is tight or you’re looking for something personal consider a homemade scrapbook of your journey together, a little box or teapot with some keepsakes inside (ticket stubs, mini gifts etc, plan a night cooking your favourite foods together or take a craft class and gift the results!

Here at Cute Maps we have two favourites suitable for whoever you decide to show your love to this Valentines. Our Cute Path Mounted Print is the perfect way to illustrate your journey together or even just your loved one’s journey in life so far. We have all kinds of requests from places visited, activities, pets, cars, favourite movies and broken legs! Or maybe our Cute Gift Map Mounted Print would suit your loved one better where you can pay homage to a special tour, road trip or your favourite places. Every design is made utterly bespoke so we use your locations and milestones to create your design, presented as a mounted print that will last a lifetime.

Plants are a great gift because it can resemble how your love keeps growing or blossoming over time. It could be a fruit baring plant or maybe a bonsai tree. Trees are also a great idea if you have the garden space and the patience for it to grow!

Winter Wedding Inspiration

Winter Weddings can be the most romantic time of the year to tie the knot. The icy cold backdrop is ideal for both deep and pale colour schemes and wintery- like snowflakes, holly and rose petals. Here are some frosty wedding ideas for the perfect winter wedding.

Snow!

Even though we can’t predict the weather we can still make snow happen! Snow can fall as you walk down the aisle, as you say your vows or during your first dance. Whenever snow falls you’re guaranteed that magical effect that everyone will love.

Hot Chocolate!

To keep guests warm and cosy a hot chocolate bar could be the answer. Make your own hot chocolate and add in extras like cream, marshmallows, cinnamon sticks and chocolate chips. Adults can be top them off with some alcohol liqueurs.

Colour schemes!

Traditional white and silver will never go out of fashion for winter nuptials. For a more contemporary feel ice blue with peaches or pinks give that playful winter wonderland feel. Grey and blue really complement each other and any shade of blue goes – ice blue, aqua or a teal.

Attire!

Crystal embellished or glitter covered shoes, bags or even bridesmaid dresses elegantly reflect the winter theme. For the bride, plush capes or fur wraps to keep warm in the outdoor photos. Double up your guests’ favours and the winter theme by supplying cosy slippers for your guests to change into to keep their feet toasty.

Reception Décor!

Your reception can reflect an icy forest with icicles and snow sprayed twigs centrepieces. If falling snow is a bit extravagant, snowflakes can be projected onto the walls of the reception with changing colours or just an ice blue for that wintery feel. Motion projectors can be found for a good price at many retailers at the moment. For that cosy romantic feel drape fairy lights over the reception tables and windows.

Go Rustic!

Rustic winter elements add a cosy and warm feel and are great for tithe barns and tipis. Wooden place settings and wintery centrepieces with pinecones or berries can be a different route to a winter wonderland sensation. Elegant lace, fairy lights, flowers, and candles are an obvious must in your décor wish list. And don’t forget to keep the theme flowing through your stationery. Check out the Christmas themed Cute Maps we previously designed.

Cake!

Think frosted berry garnishes, snowflake edibles, marble patterns or even theming the tiers in a wintery forest design. Just remember to check on prices and styles available local to your venue before falling in love with a cake design.

Food!

Whether you’re serving meals or a buffet, warm, feel good food is probably the best route to go down and to make sure there is plenty of it! The cold weather is a perfect opportunity to bring everyone together with food and can be accomplished very easily. Classic wintery foods can be simply and cheaply made but pulled off with flair if done right. Classic soups can be served in small portions accompanied with a hearty cheese on toast, or maybe macaroni and cheese bites puts a fun twist on a classic. Anything with warm chocolate will go down a treat (allergy allowing!): chocolate cake, brownies, melt in the middle puddings and three flavoured warm chocolate pots are my personal favourite with churros dipped in chocolate!

2018 Wedding Trends

2018 has been a revolutionary year for fashion and acceptance. The fashion world has taken on how diverse we are becoming and that is reflected greatly in the wedding community as people’s personalities mirror their wedding styles. Ever thought about a weekend long wedding, a pet friendly wedding or even starting the planning with a vibe, like Geometric & Retro, rather than a colour?

Colour trends:

Trying to think of a wedding scheme can be one of the hardest parts of wedding planning. However this year has given us many good ideas for how to pull this off well. Pinks, greys, purples and black are a huge hit at the moment. Using neutral shades for most of the wedding really heightens the simple colour scheme of one bold colour for the big accents. Furnishings, flowers, cake and stationary can all be bright colours set against a background of neutral undertones.

Food and Drink:

Pleasing all your guests can be difficult when it comes to food so switch to serving buffet style and save some pennies like 54% of 2018 weddings. Food themes are a huge hit this year: Indian, brunch, Mexican or even daring vegan menus. Taco and ice cream food trucks get people involved with food and have fun mixing dish flavours, or switch it up to a cute prosecco or cocktail truck which are making increasing appearances at events and festivals. Great Gatsby themes are very on trend right now including delicate finger sandwiches, macaroons, bitesize burgers and fruit.

Bubblys always add class to the table at weddings so having a bottle of champagne or prosecco for your guests to drink will go down a treat. Maybe local craft beers, spirits and gins might also fit your theme? Cocktails are always popular, so a make-your-own cocktail stand will be a sure hit with your guests. Whatever you choose to serve, ice cubes with berries and herbs infused into them will put a smile on everyone’s face! As with all ideas involving alcohol, remember to discuss beforehand with your venue or negotiate it into your package so you don’t get vetoed by them on the setup day or stung with large corkage bills.

Wedding Cake:

Sleek and modern twists were a big favourite in 2018 cake designs. Geometric patterns radiate modern art deco and metallics like bronze and silver really compliment these themes. A simple wedding cake structure with marble and textured patterns bring subtle contemporary touches to 2018 weddings. Floral touches, be they real or sugar flowers, remain a timeless and versatile way to dress cakes this year.

Wedding dresses:

Stepping away from the traditional wedding dresses can be hard for some brides. However, in 2018 brides can pretty much wear whatever they like from princess style dresses to white tuxedos. Lace has stepped up a notch this year as bohemian style dresses have taken centre stage. Floaty and elegant silhouettes, incorporating fluted sleeves, open backs, drop waists and embellished mesh ooze sophisticated style on the catwalk. Coloured dresses are no longer an unseen thing with subtle pale pinks and even bold reds and black popping up. A new dress trend this year is personalised embroidered embellishments – coloured or white, flowers, birds, butterflies, leaves and petals – executed right can really be quite impressive.

Late Summer Wedding

I know when people think of Summer Weddings, thoughts usually turn to pretty pastels and fresh clean hues, hay bales, bunting, wildflowers and photographs in glowing cornfields. I love it too, but what about another direction? I’m thinking a lush romantic jewel-tone vibe; deep reds, rich purples, golden greens. I imagine that time of year when balmy Summers first ease into Autumn. Leafy forests with dappled light and a cool breeze, the sunshine glistening from the canopy above and the leaves starting to turn from green to gold. With a little moody lighting, colourful prints, comfy cushy seating, you could make a fab romantic magical vibe in the depths of a secluded forest.

Present Wrapping Ideas and Inspiration

26_7148075_origIt’s that time of year again… lots of money is spent, lots of things are bought, and we only hope that our loved ones are going to love and appreciate what we have spent so much time and effort on over the last few weeks. This year I’m concentrating on small but meaningful, less expensive but well thought out pressies for the family. And with the ever growing group of friends, Secret Santa is always great idea as it definitely saves a few pennies! I really do believe though that a well wrapped present, wrapped with effort and time, love and a hint of creativity really makes the difference to the look of a present, especially if you’re like me this year and ‘trying’ to pull back on overspending.

My family love their food and being half Sicilian we love our Italian delights! I’m planning on heading to the Manchester Christmas Food Markets and stocking up on Italian biscuits, cakes, and these huge round ‘cakes’ which are entirely made out of chocolate and cut into slices which look like crazy lush soaps! I like the idea of wrapping them in clear cellophane so you can see the colourful nutty beauties that sit within, sealed off with an abundance of colourful ribbon and name tagged with a funny photo of them – which is also a little extra pressie. Or, place them in a Kilner jar which would be great to keep them fresh, and write their name and a little message with a glass pen on the front. This could also double up as a great biscuit/coffee/tea container of the future!

So, Halloween weddings? This has to be the King of themed weddings, right? No pastels allowed! It doesn’t have to be all blood and gore though, oh no. We’ve found some fabulous classy and fun ideas for a sophisticated Halloween wedding. Personally I love the idea of lots of black in a wedding theme, how do you like the look of these stunning black wedding gowns? The black gold and diamond ring would be something I absolutely could not say no to! How about experimenting with fun treats, showstopping dessert tables, smoky cocktails, deep red flowers and a hint of gothic font? There are so many great ideas for a Halloween wedding, it by no means needs to be tacky or unoriginal, question is, do you dare?
